This is a case report of a 67-year-old man with severe bleeding due to gastric varices, who is not known to have chronic liver disease. Bleeding continued in spite of endoscopic sclerotherapy and transfusion of blood products, but stopped after administering a single bolus dose of rFVIIa of 4.8 mg (66.7 mg/kg), which enabled surgery to be performed 48 hours later.
