NATA Review

A recombinant hemoglobin based oxygen carrier with reduced nitric oxide-scavenging properties through site directed mutagenesis of the heme pocket has been developed. This second-generation product has been shown to be an effective resuscitation fluid restoring pancreatic microcirculation in a rat model of hemorrhagic shock. Unfortunately, the future development of such compound appears compromised due to financial problems.
