Audit of the clinical use of fresh-frozen plasma in Umbria: study design and results of the pilot phase.

This is a pilot study to audit the use FFP in a region of Italy. The study showed that only 50% of requests were adequately completed and that the indication for the use of FFP was only appropriate in one third of cases, according to current guidelines. This retrospective but honest study identifies the critical areas that should be targeted by interventions to improve plasma usage.
