NATA Review

This retrospective study in ICU patients admitted for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage suggests a relationship between anemia and outcome. Nevertheless, hemoglobin concentrations were high in all patients (> 11 g/dL) and differences in hemoglobin concentrations between patients with or without favorable outcome differed by only 0.5 to 1.0 g/dL. The clinical relevance of this difference remains questionable.
