Anemia in pregnancy does not always respond to oral iron. As shown by this study, the use of intravenous iron with or without an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent can be an effective strategy. Although the number of subjects in this study is small, the group at the University of Zurich has significant experience in the treatment of anemia in pregnancy, both with intravenous iron and recombinant human erythropoietin, as shown by previous publications.
