Therapeutic efficacy of platelet transfusion in patients with acute leukemia: an evaluation of methods.

The authors of this study report that the thromboelastogram value ‘maximal amplitude’ – an indicator of platelet function – could provide predictive information on functionality of transfused platelets and bleeding risk in leukemia. Carefully standardized thromboelastography could therefore represent a new tool to determine platelet transfusion requirements in oncology/hematology.
