NATA Review

This study used an established animal model of transfusion-related acute lung injury to demonstrate the significant role of recipient factors in addition to age of blood products as triggers for this complication of severe blood transfusion. Of note, the authors identified a more prominent causative role of aged red blood cells as compared to aged platelets.
