NATA Review

The authors describe the performance of a mortality risk stratification score applied to 108 patients who declined blood transfusion for religious reasons. While the score appeared to predict the risk of death, the value of this score is limited by the small number of patients it was derived from and by the absence of validation in a separate group of patients.
