This case-control study confirms that transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO) is associated with both increased mortality and morbidity. Factors associated with an increased incidence of TACO were identified. If confirmed in further studies, they should be integrated in predictive algorithms leading to transfusion practice modifications in the “at-risk” population.
