Treatment of anemia in patients with heart disease: a systematic review.
Kansagara and colleagues conducted a systematic review of the literature on anemia in patients with heart disease. They found low strength evidence that liberal transfusion does not improve outcome, moderate strength evidence that intravenous iron improves exercise tolerance and quality of life in patients with heart failure, and good evidence that erythropoesis-stimulating agents do not improve outcome.
