The authors report the impact of a clinical decision support system at a single centre to improve transfusion practices for 97 haematology service patients. They compared compliance according to their guidelines for RBC and platelet ordering before and 7 months after implementation of a smart best practices alert.

The authors found that compliance for RBC guidelines increased from 31% to 56% (p < 0.005) and for platelets from 58% to 69% (p = 0.16). – Lawrence Tim Goodnough
