This Cochrane review systematically reviewed all the RCTs on the use of tranexamic acid in postpartum haemorrhage. It concluded that the trials were of mixed quality and that overall there was a reduction in bleeding and use of blood transfusion with tranexamic acid, but inadequate data to assess whether mortality, serious side effects or effect on the rate of postpartum venous thromboembolism were affected. All the later points should be revealed when the WOMAN study reports next year.
