Pharmacosmos company profile
At Pharmacosmos, we are specialists in iron therapy. We develop, manufacture and market medicines for the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia in humans and animals. We are furthermore specialists in developing and producing advanced carbohydrates for pharmaceutical and technical uses.
Across the world, more than 1 billion people live with iron deficiency anaemia, making it one of the largest global health challenges of our time. At Pharmacosmos, we want to change the way iron deficiency is prevented and treated in humans and animals. We are inspired by one central question: How can we continue to improve patient safety, recovery and convenience and thereby achieve better outcomes?
We seek the answer by staying at the scientific forefront of iron and carbohydrate technology – partnering with dedicated people and leading organisations to deliver the best possible treatments for human and veterinary use. In this way, we improve more than iron complexes and carbohydrates, we improve the quality of lives.

We have our headquarters in Holbaek, Denmark and affiliates in the US, China, UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

Learning objectives:

Participants will gain insight into the integration of Patient Blood management (PBM) and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), with a specific focus on the importance of pre-and postoperative iron deficiency (IDA) management.

They will explore the benefits of early IDA treatment in optimizing surgical outcomes and understand the challenges in achieving full implementation of PBM and ERAS in routine clinical practice.

The session will highlight strategies to bridge the gap between these two approaches and improve patient care.

MEET-THE-EXPERT

Organised by Sysmex

ROOM: TERRA

Session title: The Importance of Cellular Parameters in Thrombotic and Hemorrhagic Events and Iron Deficiency: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Improve Patient Care.

Chairperson: Dr. Ondrej Valina, Norderstedt – Germany

The Importance of Cellular Parameters in Thrombotic and Hemorrhagic Events and Iron Deficiency: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Improve Patient Care

Dr. Zsuzsanna Wolf, Munich – Germany

Learning objectives:

The measurement of reticulocytes, reticulocyte haemoglobin equivalent (RET-He) and immature platelets (IPF% and IPF#) as
part of a blood count is playing an increasingly important role in clinical practice. RET-He is already established in routine
diagnostics for the detection of iron deficiency in the perioperative setting, while automated IPF% and IPF# analysis is
emerging as a valuable parameter for the prediction of bleeding events in thrombocytopenic patients and for the assessment
of bone marrow recovery after bone marrow or stem cell transplantation. In addition, IPF# has shown promising potential in
the diagnosis of cardiac disease in both children and adults, further underlining its clinical relevance.
