SYMPOSIUM
Organised by i-SEP and HemoSonics International
ROOM: AUDIMAX – PLENARY ROOM
Session title: Patient blood management in cardiac surgery and obstetric: from coagulation monitoring with Quantra® & qLabs® FIB to comprehensive autotransfusion (Platelets + RBC) with same™
Chairperson: Aryeh Shander – Englewood, NJ, USA

Dr. Gösta Lotz – Frankfurt, Germany
Learning objective:
This symposium will provide an updated overview of Patient Blood Management (PBM) in cardiac surgery and obstetrics, focusing on coagulation monitoring with Quantra® and qLabs® FIB. It will also explore comprehensive autotransfusion (platelets + RBC) using Same™, with initial feedback from clinical experience in Frankfurt University.
09:00-10:00
MEET-THE-EXPERT
Organised by Pharmacosmos
ROOM: TERRA
Session title: The patient’s perioperative journey: ERAS meeting PBM
Chairperson: Prof. Kai Zacharowski – Frankfurt, Germany
The patient’s perioperative journey: The surgery / ERAS perspective with a focus in IDA management
Prof. Nuh Rahbari – Ulm, Germany
The patient’s perioperative journey: The PBM perspective with a focus in IDA management
Dr. Caroline Evans – Cardiff, United Kingdom
Learning objectives:
Participants will gain insight into the integration of Patient Blood management (PBM) and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), with a specific focus on the importance of pre-and postoperative iron deficiency (IDA) management.
They will explore the benefits of early IDA treatment in optimizing surgical outcomes and understand the challenges in achieving full implementation of PBM and ERAS in routine clinical practice.
The session will highlight strategies to bridge the gap between these two approaches and improve patient care.
13:15-14:15
SYMPOSIUM
Organised by Octapharma

Is It Time to Replace Plasma With 4F-PCC in Cardiac Surgery?
Dr. Keyvan Karkouti – Toronto, Canada
Q&A
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this symposium, participants will be able to identify key challenges in surgical bleeding management, understand the rationale for prioritizing early fibrinogen (Factor I) replacement, and evaluate current clinical evidence supporting the use of 4-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) as a superior option to FP on efficacy and safety for patients undergoing cardiac surgery with coagulopathic bleeding, with the goal of optimizing haemostatic strategies and improving patient outcomes.
13:15-14:15
MEET-THE-EXPERT
Organised by Sysmex
ROOM: TERRA
Session title: The Importance of Cellular Parameters in Thrombotic and Hemorrhagic Events and Iron Deficiency: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Improve Patient Care.
Chairperson: Dr. Ondrej Valina, Norderstedt – Germany
The Importance of Cellular Parameters in Thrombotic and Hemorrhagic Events and Iron Deficiency: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Improve Patient Care
Dr. Zsuzsanna Wolf, Munich – Germany
Learning objectives:
The measurement of reticulocytes, reticulocyte haemoglobin equivalent (RET-He) and immature platelets (IPF% and IPF#) as
part of a blood count is playing an increasingly important role in clinical practice. RET-He is already established in routine
diagnostics for the detection of iron deficiency in the perioperative setting, while automated IPF% and IPF# analysis is
emerging as a valuable parameter for the prediction of bleeding events in thrombocytopenic patients and for the assessment
of bone marrow recovery after bone marrow or stem cell transplantation. In addition, IPF# has shown promising potential in
the diagnosis of cardiac disease in both children and adults, further underlining its clinical relevance.
NATA: Network for the advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis
