Chair and Head Clinical Haematology, Department of Medicine, University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital, South Africa and current President of the South African Clinical Haematology Society. He trained in Medicine and Internal Medicine at the University of Stellenbosch and in Clinical Haematology at the Leuven University, Belgium.

He is a member of the WHO Working Group on Patient Blood Management Implementation. His research focuses on iron, transfusion and PBM. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.

On his YouTube channel, he has teaching videos ranging from Iron Deficiency to Clinical Reasoning.
