Alexander Vlaar. PhD, MD, MBA is full professor Intensive Care Medicine. He works as an intensivist in the Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, and has extensive experience in the design and execution of large multicenter trials next to basic science. His research has been awarded with many scientific awards.

His Transfusion research line consist of pre-clinical and clinical investigation in the field of transfusion related acute lung injury and transfusion associated circulatory overload. He is the chair of the ESICM Transfusion Task Force. Furthermore, he is principal investigator of several landmark studies published in NEJM, Lancet and JAMA.
