"Erythrocyte and reticulocyte indices in the evaluation of erythropoietic activity and iron availability."
She started her career in Clinical Chemistry in 1984 as a trainee in Hospital General de Asturias ( Oviedo, Spain); she became head of Laboratory in a Community Hospital , Hospital de Jarrio, (Asturias, Spain) in 1990.
In 2001 started as Consultant in Clinical Laboratory in the Hospital Galdakao-Usansolo (Spain), responsible for Hematology Laboratory. In 2010 she obtained her PhD in Medical Science at Zaragoza University (Zaragoza, Spain) with a thesis on new parameters for the assessment of erythropoiesis. Currently Is associate researcher in Biocruces Bizkaia Health Research Institute and Senior Consultant in the area of Analytical Hematology at the Hospital Universitario Galdakao-Usansolo in Vizcaya. Spain.
She has collaborated with the Spanish Science and Innovation Ministry, in the Agency for Assessment of new technologies and the Health Research Council for the validation of research projects of the Czech Republic and Argentina and with the WHO Guideline Development Group – Ferritin International Micronutrient Malnutrition Prevention and Control, World Health Organization. She is member of European Network for Rare and Congenital Anemias and of the Spanish Society for Medical Laboratory SEQC ML , associated since 1986 , part of the Analytical Hematology working group. She represents this Society in the working group on Standardization of Fetal Haemoglobin of the International federation of Clinical Chemistry.
She collaborates with International Council for Standarization in Hematology (ICSH), since 2015, interested in the harmonization of the analytical techniques in daily practice and to improve the quality of results globally.
She is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Laboratory Hematology 2022-2025. She is particularly involved in the development of new hematological parameters applied to the study of anemia and erythropoiesis, markers of inflammation as well as Glycohemoglobin, serving as an editorial board member and scientific reviewer for different Journal.
