Graduated from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Present working as senior consultant gastroenterologist Akershus University hospital (Ahus), Oslo and Akershus, Norway. Specialist in internal/general medicine and in gastroenterology.
Ahus is one of the largest hospitals in Norway, serving a population of approx. 640 000 people.
Inflammatory bowel disease is the primary field of interest along with iron deficiency and Patient Blood Management. PhD candidate within the subject on iron deficiency research in gastroenterology at the institute of clinical medicine, University of Oslo.
Head of the IBD and transfusion medicine unit; part of the IBD-clinical and research team at Akershus University Hospital. Member of the board/steering committee for the IBSEN III study.
Special interest in IV iron treatment since 2012 due to the high prevalence of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia (ID/IDA) in the IBD patient group. This has developed into a keen interest in ID and IDA across diagnostic groups and resulted in ongoing studies, not only in IBD.
Many years of experience with high dose IV iron and Dr. Detlie is responsible for guidelines regarding IV iron treatment at Ahus and implementation of Patient Blood Management in gastroenterology.
Member of the national board for Patient Blood Management in Norway.
