I am a general surgeon. I have spent a 35 years career taking care of severe trauma patients and
critically ill surgical patients, teaching and researching these issues. Currently, I am a full professor of
Universidad del Valle, professor of Universidad Icesi, and acute care and critical care surgeon at
Fundación Valle del Lili in Cali, Colombia.
I have participated in the improvement of the care of trauma and critically ill patients at my hospital,
my region, and my country by the standardization of different phases of the evaluation and treatment,
the creation of intensive care units, and the development of the fellowship of trauma and acute care
surgery.
My research interests have centered on the initial care of trauma patients, the treatment of some
specific organ lesions, and the ICU support of trauma patients.
