Biography

Dr Manuela Gomes has a degree in Medicine, a Master in Bioethics from the University of Lisbon and is currently finishing her PhD at Nova Medical School. She is a senior graduate assistant in Transfusion Medicine and developed her career at Hospital de Santa Cruz – Carnaxide, an institution mainly devoted to cardiac surgery and Interventional cardiology, where she was head of service until 2014. She has been a fellow in Haematology and Transfusion Medicine with the European Board of Medical Biopathology since 2005 and has worked alongside Portuguese Health Authorities in the development of clinical guidelines since 2013. Manuela has been a Research Assistant at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and involved in international clinical trials. She has participated in multidisciplinary projects at national level, with several national and international publications. Currently, Manuela is working in the private sector and her main areas of research interest are acquired coagulopathies in surgical, obstetric, and medical contexts.
