Biography

After completing her medical studies at the University of Vienna in 1991, she was trained at the Department of Anaesthesiology, General Intensive Care and Pain Management at the Vienna Medical University, Austria. She became Professor in Anaesthesiology in 2000 and Chairwoman of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Evangelical Hospital Vienna, Austria in 2008. Dr. Kietaibl was president of the Austrian Society of Anaesthesiology (ÖGARI) 2011-2013, was chairperson of Subcommittee 6 Transfusion & Haemostasis of the European Society of Anaesthesiologists and Intensive Care (ESAIC) 2010-2012, member of the Guidelines Committee of the ESA 2013-2018. She coordinated the ESAIC guidelines on the management of severe perioperative bleeding published 2013, the update 2017 and currently the update 2022. She was co-worker of the ESAIC guidelines on regional anaesthesia on antithrombotic drugs 2010 and coordinated the joint ESAIC/ESRA guidelines on this topic 2022. She is co-worker of the ESAIC guidelines on venous thromboprophylaxis 2018 and the ongoing update 2022.

Dr. Kietaibl is Austrian delegate at the European Board of Anaesthesiology (EBA), standing committee education & professional development. She coordinated the competence-based European Training Requirement (ETR) in 2018 and 2022 and the Professional Development Module (PDM) in Pain Medicine for Anaesthesiologists 2022.

In 2009 she launched an innovative multi-media e-learning platform www.perioperativebleeding.org and applications for smartphones on anaesthesiological guidelines content. Since 2017 she leads a Master of Science-course in Patient Blood Management. She wrote more than 135 peer reviewed articles and 30 chapters in national and international textbooks, published with the last name Kozek-Langenecker until marriage in summer 2017.
