Kong, Robert


Dr Robert Kong is a cardiac anaesthetist and intensivist at University Hospitals Sussex in Brighton, UK. He has had a long interest in preoperative anaemia, having presented possibly the first abstract on the topic at a NATA annual symposium (Lisbon, 2008). He is the chief investigator of the INITIATE trial that evaluated the use of intravenous ferric derisomaltose and darbepoetin to treat preoperative anaemia. He has been a local principal investigator in clinical trials on transfusion in cardiac surgery and trauma. He is the lead for Clinical Ultrasound Education at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

Originally from Burma (Myanmar), Dr Kong studied medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London and undertook postgraduate training in anaesthesia and intensive care in the UK and Paris (France). He started his consultant post in Brighton in 1999.
