Dr Schlimp is a Consultant in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Trauma Hospital Linz, Austria and Senior Research Fellow at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology in the AUVA Trauma Research Center, Vienna, Austria. Since 2001, Dr Schlimp uses point-of-care viscoelastic testing and coagulation factors for the guidance of coagulation management in traumatic or perioperative bleeding patients. Dr Schlimp has worked for many years in the hospital-based trauma services as well as in the primary retrieval with the helicopter emergency service. In 2016, Dr Schlimp carried out a fellowship at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Scotland, focusing on perioperative bleeding management in major vascular surgery. Dr Schlimp has also completed a two-year research fellowship at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology, Vienna, Austria, where he has been focusing scientifically on improvement/validity of assays and quick diagnosis to estimate fibrinogen levels/functionality as well as on treatment options for traumatic or perioperative acquired coagulopathy.
Dr Schlimp has a wealth of clinical experience, having studied, worked, and taught across the world in the fields of anaesthesia, critical care medicine, preclinical emergency medicine and trauma management. Dr Schlimp has over 60 peer-reviewed publications in the areas of anaesthesia, critical care, and emergency medicine and in 2015 he was granted the venia docendi at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria. He is member and currently head of the Task Force on Perioperative Haemostasis (AGPG) of the Austrian Association of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Care Medicine (ÖGARI).
