This article underlines the importance of providing a cell salvage service as a 24-hour service as in emergency situations much blood is lost if cell salvage is not immediately available. This fact probably accounts for the very modest saving in allogeneic blood use. Of significant note is the absence of amniotic fluid problems in this series of patients.
